I really hope the tummy issues are getting better.
And as far as your walks go (yay for you! i agree walks rock), forget the ones who look at you with a crying baby. Mine do it once in a while, too. I just look at it as them getting even more fresh air in! :-)
Hey, is that sheet on your couch to protect it, to make for better pictures, or both? Either way, it's pretty genius. My old, tired, brown couch is getting old in all these pictures we are taking.
Newt, I just read your last twitter, and I just wanted to say ugh. I'm sorry, and I don't blame you for feeling bitter! 2 hours of sleep day and night is torture, and you must be close to insane. Someone asked earlier but I don't know if you answered..have you tried a miracle blanket? it's a bit better than the others b/c they cannot get their arms out of it. Also, I'm going to get hammered here (hammered)...have you tried laying him on his stomach..maybe for a daytime nap when you can supervise? I'm flirting with death threats here, I'm sure, but some babies sleep better on their stomachs. I will admit that I put mine on her belly during the day when she naps in the den and I'm around. Not at night..but I do it. There, I said it.
Newt, I am not familiar with the study. I'll find it and let you know..but I did read on one site where a lactation nurse recommended opening a lactobacillis acidopholus (sp?..too lazy to look it up)capsule, wetting a finger and dipping it into the powder, and then letting the baby suck on it....take that for what it is worth. I have tried it with Lizzy a few times and i'm not sure if it made a difference b/c around the same time she improved and became less gassy (so many variables..hard to control..could have been my elimination of dairy, etc). I was doing this, though, to battle yeast..back when I thought yeast might be causing her gas and upset stomach. I take two acidopholus (s?) pills per day (probiotic formula). Does he take a pacifier? maybe try letting him suck a paci or your finger after you lay him on his tummy..or turn him on his tummy after he is asleep and see how well he sleeps that way..supervised of course. That way he may not protest as much about the belly (if he's asleep)? Just another thought. I SURE hope you find the magic bullet..before you go out of your mind.
Okay, here is one article cautioning use of probiotics in certain children (dosages and route of administering may have an effect, as well as the medical history of the child) http://pediatrics.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/115/1/178. but overall, it sounds really promising if the newtlet is suffering from diarrhea (is he?). As far as battling allergy development to cow's milk protein..he's not exposed to that through you so I don't think the probiotics would have an effect on that score. One other suggestion..what temperature do you keep your house at? All the books say keep it at 70-75, but mine sleeps much better and longer when it is cooler (63-65 degrees). I just tuck an extra blanket in around the crib mattress.
Howdy, I'm Newt. After three miscarriages and a lost twin, I was lucky enough to welcome a real live baby in January of 2009. Although we are now experts in managing the emotional and physical terrors of miscarriage, Mr. Newt and I don't know shit from shinola when it comes to real live babies. We are hoping to enjoy a nice long learning curve.
